Psychosocial support of individuals, couples and families, is part of clinical genetics. Consequently, the psychologists and clinical educational psychologists working in the 8 genetics centers in Belgium are united under the name "PAG-working group” (Psychosocial Aspects in Genetics) within the BeSHG since March 2023.
The objectives of PAG are:
1) To promote awareness about the significance and importance of psychosocial issues in clinical genetics.
2) To exchange and optimize procedures, knowledge and experiences on the psychosocial aspects of genetic counseling.
3) To facilitate the discussion of complex psychosocial and ethical issues in genetic counseling.
4) To exchange a state of the art of relevant scientific research.
5) To promote cooperation and collaboration between professionals working in different disciplines.
6) To organize a session 'psychosocial aspects in clinical genetics' at the yearly BeSHG meeting.
7) To collaborate with other working groups, e.g. the Genetic Counselors working group, for example in organizing a separate session at a national/international congress or symposium on topics in clinical genetics for psychologists, clinical educational psychologists and genetic counselors.
Meetings
Meetings will take place four times a year, live or online.
